Meet Matt

Hey! I’m Matt and I’m new here at the Weston Church Youth Project. I grew up in and around Southampton and have always loved Weston – I used to come to Weston Shore as a kid, and more recently have been involved at the Hope Centre (on Drayton Close) and WCYP.

I love films, art, cooking, drama, travelling, watersports, being outside, and spending time with others! I have been involved in various different bits of youth work and kids work in the past, from youth residentials to kids holiday clubs. In my last job, I worked as a carer in a Children’s home and as a Support Worker in a Special Educational Needs School. We know life isn’t always easy, so I love the chance to hear about people’s experiences and walk through stuff with them – the challenges as well as the celebrations. I love it when people from different backgrounds and life experiences (diversity) can work together to help others in the community (unity) – this is what I’m passionate about seeing in Weston!

I currently live in Portswood with my wife, Mim. I’m also a Christian, am part of King’s Community Church Southampton, and have studied theology (basically Christianity/ God stuff) over the last few years too.

I’m the new Interim Deputy Project Manager, which basically means I’ll be helping Jenni while Rachel is away. I’ll be supporting the youth groups at the Venny and the groups at Holy Trinity Weston, so hopefully you’ll see me around and I’ll get a chance to meet you!
