Christmas wishes from WCYP

xmas-nativity

“Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before! What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas... perhaps... means a little bit more!"

With rising living costs maybe Christmas is looking a little bit different this year. Maybe a few less presents or wearing a few more layers round the house. Or maybe you haven’t been affected.

How the Grinch stole Christmas is a favourite of mine, as an adult we can find ourselves relating more to the Grinch than the people of Whoville. Jim Carrey’s portrayal of a Grinch that comes to realise that Christmas isn’t all about buying the best present or endless Christmas songs is strangely heart-warming.

At WCYP we’ve been enjoying the festivities; Christmas parties, Nativity plays, trips, tasty food and as much as they are all good things that’s not what Christmas is about for us.

The book of Isaiah in the bible, chapter 9 verse 6 says

“For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
    Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Jesus was born to be the long-awaited gift for anyone to receive. He is an everlasting king who loves us like a father, laying down his life for us, to save us from death. He is our reason for joy at Christmas first and foremost, although mince pies are fairly high on the list too. The truth of Jesus remains even when life feels uncertain, he is our peace when the world seems to be in chaos.

Whatever Christmas means to you, we wish you joy and peace this holiday season, we may see some of you on Christmas day for Holy Trinity church’s 10am service, otherwise see you in the new year!
