A Wale of a time
When was the last time you went for a long walk? No, I mean, a really long walk?
As the seemingly never-ending month of January comes to a close, here at WCYP we are making the final preparations for our annual youth retreat to the Brecon Beacons mountain range in Wales.
On this trip we spend 3 days staying in a converted barn, take long walks alongside dramatic waterfalls and aim to press the “reset” button on our busy, technology-fuelled lives. In an age of Amazon prime, Netflix and TikTok there is a beautiful simplicity in spending a few days in the Welsh mountains, no phone signal, no WiFi, no rush. Just be.
I recently read a quote on social media which stuck with me - “If you don’t pick a day for your body to rest, your body will pick it for you”. At WCYP we aim to improve the whole lives of the young people we meet and this includes providing much needed rest for their saturated minds and reconnecting them with the amazing experiences creation has to offer.
God’s kingdom is an upside-down one, where more isn’t always better and busier doesn’t always equal success. Instead it’s where Jesus says to us “Come to me all who are weary, and I will give you rest”.
So why not plan a trip to the mountains? Take time to enjoy nature and s-l-o-w down, I guarantee you'll feel better for it!
